We are pleased to share a significant update from the U.S. Department of State that will positively impact our international students preparing for Fall 2025 enrollment.

On June 18, 2025, an internal State Department cable directed U.S. embassies and consulates around the world to resume opening F, M, and J visa interview appointments, reversing the temporary suspension that began in late May. This policy change is a major step forward in ensuring timely student arrivals for the upcoming school year.

Enhanced Social Media Screening Now in Effect

In conjunction with the resumption of visa processing, the State Department has also introduced expanded social media screening requirements. All student visa applicants are now required to:

  • Make their social media accounts public for the duration of the visa process
  • Avoid posting political content or sensitive material that could raise red flags during screening
  • Not delete their accounts, as this could result in additional scrutiny

These new screening protocols are part of enhanced vetting procedures, and we strongly encourage students and families to follow all guidance carefully to avoid unnecessary delays.

What This Means for Amerigo Students

While embassies may reopen appointment slots at different speeds, the new directive is an encouraging signal that progress is underway. Delays due to high demand are still possible, but this update enables students to continue preparing with greater clarity and confidence.

As always, Amerigo is committed to supporting each student and their family. Should any student experience visa delays, Amerigo will work closely with them and their host school to explore solutions, including additional onboarding support.
