Day in the Life of an Amerigo Homestay Student

Learn more about what life is like for our Amerigo Signature Students living in Homestays.

Amerigo Signature students living in Homestay residences have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the local culture. These students live with warm and welcoming Host Families who live in close proximity to the school. Together, they share meals, weekends and daily life, often forming lifelong family-like relationships.

Our Signature Homestay program is offered at:

·      Bishop Montgomery High School (Los Angeles, California)

·      Carmel Catholic High School (Chicago North Shore)

·      Mater Dei High School (Orange County, California)

·      Regent Christian Academy (Vancouver, British Columbia)

·      Saint Anthony’s High School (Long Island, New York)

·      Saint John’s High School (Long Island, New York)

·      Villanova College (Toronto, Ontario)

 

Read on to see what a day in the life is like for Johnny, a Grade 11 Amerigo Homestay Student.

 

6:45 AM – Johnny wakes up and gets ready for another day of school.

 

7 AM – He eats breakfast with his Host Family and they talk about their plans for the day.

 

7:30 AM – The yellow school bus arrives to take Johnny to school!

 

8:20 AM – Johnny heads to his first period class – AP Physics.

 

9:10 AM – Johnny has World History, his second period class, next.

 

10 AM – Johnny takes part in ARC 3, his English Language Learning course offered through Amerigo. Today they’re working on writing personal essays.

 

11:30 AM– Lunch time! Johnny eats a delicious, hot lunch fromthe school cafeteria, while also spending time with his friends

 

12:25 PM – Johnny attends his AP Calculus class.  

 

1:20 PM – He finishes up the day with a Ceramics class – he loves the electives offered by the school!

 

2:30 PM – After school, Johnny takes part in Badminton Club. He’s made a lot of new friends through the club.

 

5:30 PM – Johnny takes the late bus back to his Homestay.

 

6:30 PM – He hangs out on the home’s beautiful back porch with his Host Mother and his Host Sister, and they talk about their day while spending quality time together.

 

7:30 PM – Johnny and his Host Family eat dinner together, where they talk about their day, Johnny’s classes and what they’ll do on the weekend.

 

8:30 PM – Homework time! Johnny’s Host Mother is on hand if he needs any additional help.

 

10:00 PM – Johnny showers and gets ready for bed.

 

10:30 PM – Lights out!
